ELITE LEVEL What does Elite mean? For those involved with or looking outside in, a Defiance Combat F.R.A.C.T System© Elite level instructor is at the top of their game in terms of performance, knowledge and coaching capability. Elite instructors are  those who have demonstrated their dedication to the programme, have enabled the word of Defiance Combat to spread and above all have the technical and personal skills to be ambassadors for the Defiance Combat name. It's not necessarily about time served, it's about attitude, capability and personal will, if you have it, then bring it. How do I achieve this? Those that achieve Elite status will have achieved a few things along the way: • Attend the Elite certification coaching programme, there is no time limit on this, as each individual will have different levels of time, resources and opportunity to train; though in essence this will represent regular training. • Fully mastered the Foundation and Advanced levels. • Have over time contributed to the value of Defiance Combat, most likely through the research, development and application of technique and/or training applications. • Demonstrated a level of expertise and/or understanding that demonstrates a mastery level of not just the technique but also the theory that supports it. What's the route? Attend the programmes, teach the system, come to the instructor camps and contribute to the system, bring your style, drive and flair. What does an Elite instructor know that the others levels don't? That's a good question. Generally at Elite level the idea is not necessarily about knowing more techniques that the other levels as is common in many martial art styles, this isn't a 'secret squirrel' process, where the best moves are held back. Elite level instructors will have a high level of competence and capability in the Defiance Combat system and will also add their own character and style to the programme, in such a way that the system benefits from their contribution; be that on the technical or psychological applications.  At this level we are seeking people who have added to the style and the thinking of the system; whilst at the same time are seen to drive the program forward in terms of marketing it to the world. Elite level instructors will have a drive to take a self defence system that works on multiple platforms and enhance it through their own efforts, thinking, challenge and support. Let us be under no illusions Where as many self defence programmes are a hard stop at the end of their certification programme, this is very different. This is going to require a level of dedication that demonstrates your technical competence in regards to: • Application of Technique • Coaching Excellence • Contribution to Development • Own developmental niche expertise Remember that the overall point of the Defiance Combat F.R.A.C.T System© is to create a level of core competence in the nuts and bolts of the thinking and the approach and to enable you as the coach to find your own platform and expertise. Will I need experience outside of the Defiance Combat F.R.A.C.T System©? Yes, at this level I will be expecting you to have a level of experience and knowledge that means you are able to challenge the approach we are taking in a manner that is designed to enhance the system by trying to break it! This is an Elite level certification, it is here that you are able to review the technique and thinking of other systems and in the truest sense of the Bruce Lee adage: “Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless”. This is paramount as I don’t have all the answers, in fact the system needs to be organic in its growth, remember I launched this in 2011 at The Martial Arts Show Live, so when we are reading this in 2021, then I am expecting to see a lot of changes that have come from the input of those at this level. Big Idea The big idea is that those at the Elite Level will form a Development Forum that constantly review, challenge and input into the system and where those with particular niche skills move the system forward.
